A 46 year-old female client with a Spinal Cord Injury

I cannot say enough how much this has helped me in doing my transfers therefore making it easier for me by a huge margin.

To all the personnel and the entire organization of B.C. Rehab, I wanted to say how much you all mean to people with needs of all natures and without the financial resources to pay for it all across B.C. Your kindness in this make US feel like we are part of the normal population and NOT excluded from this.

A 30-year-old male client with Cerebral Palsy

“Thank-you so much for approving the grant for my attendant control joystick. Having the attendant control joystick allows the staff to assist me when we are in difficult areas to move around more easily and also the possibility to take control if I have a seizure. This allows me to keep safe in my home and in the community without the stress and worry.

I am really enjoying my increased independence in my new motorized wheelchair both in my home and in the community. It is wonderful to know I received support from such a great organization like BC Rehab Foundation.”

A 55-year-old male client who is a quadriplegic

“ I want to express my gratitude and thanks to your Foundation for providing $3000 in funding towards a reconditioned wheelchair and the parts required.

I suffered a spinal cord injury in a car accident in July 1996. Over the years I’ve had to copy physically, mentally and financially because of my disability. One thousand dollars of your donation went to the purchase of an almost new wheelchair; the other $2000 is being used to upgrade the chair with a new back and cushions and with sip/puff hardware.

Thank you so much for your generous assistance. ”

A 29-year-old male client who is a paraplegic

“ I am so thankful for the generous donation given to me by BC Rehab.

The funds will be used to make the basement in our family home completely wheelchair accessible. The basement, once finished, will have a wheelchair accessible bathroom, kitchen bedroom, laundry room and family room. ”

Brian Hickey, recipient of a 2010 BC Rehab Gert Vorsteher Memorial Award

“I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for putting on a lovely and heartfelt ceremony yesterday.

Not only was it a milestone for me, it took me back to a place of gratitude and inspiration from the different messages from the other award winners. It was certainly an experience that I will never forget as it holds a dear place in my heart.

Again, thank you so very much for your efforts. ”

A 51-year-old female client living with cerebral palsy

“Thank you so much for approving the funding for the 2 post lifts, bath base and sling.

This equipment has made a huge difference in my life as it allowed me to live at home (versus in a hospital) and maintain a basic level of independence in my daily functioning.

Although I still do need the assistance of a home support worker to get in and out of bed and to take a bath, this would not be possible without the equipment that was provided with the funding grant. ”
